Boxer Briedis to face Usyk in Riga in January

World cruiserweight champion Oleksandr Usyk from Ukraine (13-0, 11 KOs) will be traveling to Riga on January 27 to face WBC champion from Latvia Mairis Briedis (23-0, 18 KOs) in the semifinals of the World Boxing Super Series (WBSS) tournament, the organizers of the event announced December 6.

The event will be held at Arena Riga, and tickets will go on sale next week.

 

An adoring home crowd is sure to cheer on the Riga policeman, who last time around in Riga won ahard-fought encounter with Cuban Mike Perez after 12 rounds of very competitive action.

Briedis retained his WBC cruiserweight title and moved on to the semifinal round of the World Boxing Super Series tournament after defeating Cuba’s Mike Perez in Riga this past October.

Meanwhile, Usyk defeated Germany's Marco Huck in his semifinal in September.
