Czechs hand Latvia a heavy defeat at ice hockey worlds

Take note – story published 1 year ago

Latvia suffered a comprehensive defeat to the Czech Republic in their fourth IIHF World Championship game in Finland.

The Czechs completely dominated the first period of play and were 5:0 up within 20 minutes. Latvia scored a consolation goal in the final period, but there was to be no way back from the pounding received at the start of the match.

Latvia now has one win from four games and a place in the quarter finals is looking unlikely, though it is still mathematically possible. The next game is against Austria on May 20. Both Latvia and Austria have three points each after four games, making Friday's a must-win match-up.
