Dinamo Rīga pulls out of KHL

Take note – story published 2 years and 9 months ago

The board of Latvian ice hockey club Dinamo Rīga has withdrawn from all Kontinental Ice Hockey League (KHL) structures, the club announced February 27.

The decision was made in reaction to Russia's aggression in Ukraine.

"The decision to leave the KHL has been made, expressing a clear position of the club's management. In such a military and humanitarian crisis, we do not see any opportunity for cooperation with the KHL," the chairman of the club council Juris Savickis was quoted as saying in a very brief statement published on the club website.

The general sponsor of Riga Dinamo is Russian state-controlled fuel giant Gazprom.

As previously reported by LSM, the club had already announced an early end to the current season.
