Balcers is the 22nd Latvian to play in the NHL. In his first match with the Senators last week, the Senators were defeated by Minnesota Wild 3:4.
Balcers scored the third goal for the Senators on an assist from Chris Tierney, to make the score 3:4. Matt Duchene, Ryan Dzingel and Jean-Gabriel Pageau also scored for the Senators, while Justin Faulk, Brock McGinn, Jaccob Slavin, Dougie Hamilton and Justin Williams scored the goals for the Hurricanes.
Balcers was on the ice for eight minutes and 45 seconds, taking one shot on goal and blocking one shot, and earning a plus 1 rating.
Balcers has become the 15th Latvian player to score a goal in NHL regular season history.
The Senators are currently in last place in the NHL Eastern Conference with 35 points from 43 games, while the Hurricanes are in tenth place in the conference with 41 points.
The Senators will next play the Anaheim Ducks on Wednesday.
Balcers and Zemgus Girgensons of the Buffalo Sabers are the only two Latvian players who have been active this season in the NHL.
