Take note – story published 6 years ago

February 9 marks the opening of the PyeongChang 2018 Winter Olympics. A total 102 medals will be divvied up in 15 disciplines, and Latvia wants to get in on the action too.

As reported, 35 athletes will represent Latvia in nine disciplines. For fourteen of them, these will be the first Olympic games ever.

Latvian Radio sportscaster Mārtiņš Kļavenieks says Latvia can expect success in four disciplines, namely skeleton, bobsleigh, luge and biathlon.

All eyes will be on skeleton hero Martins Dukurs, who has scored every award there is in the sport, except for an Olympic gold medal.

Latvia has won medals at each of the previous three Winter Olympics.

LTV channels 1 and 7, along with LSM's Latvian-language service will offer extensive coverage.

The Olympics will take place until February 25.
