Olympic debutante Patrīcija Eiduka, aged just 18, finished in a creditable 44th place in the 10 kilometer freestyle cross country skiing event, the best ever showing in the event by a Latvian competitor.
The second Latvian competitor in the event, Inga Paškovska, finished in 80th position out of 90 athletes.
Meanwhile in the women's giant slalom, Lelde Gasūna finished in 43rd place when the race was finally held after delays due to strong winds.
"In one way I am pleased, in another way I am not pleased with my racing," said Gasūna after the event, explaining that her first run had been clean but too slow while her second was fast but marred by a few mistakes.
On the skeleton track, two of Latvia's best medal hopes - brothers Martins and Tomass Dukurs - lie just in contention for podium finishes after two runs of the four-run competition with Martins in third and Tomass in fifth. The final two runs will take place Friday morning.
