Dukurs takes 4th world-champion title in Skeleton

On Friday dominating Martins Dukurs became a four-time world champion in skeleton at Igls, Austria.

He was the fastest in all four heats and secured a 1.13-second advantage over his closest foes, Alexander Tretiakov of Russia and Yun Sung-bin of South Korea, who shared second place. His brother Tomass Dukurs finished 6th.

Melbārdis earns 1st 4-man bob gold for Latvia

On Sunday the team of Oskars Melbārdis triumphed at 4-man bob at Igls, Austria, in a fantastic achievement that saw Melbārdis, Daumants Dreiškens, Arvis Vilkaste and Jānis Strenga leap from seventh place after the first heat to an unlikely comeback on the final day.

They edged ahead of Germany by 0.04 seconds, and Switzerland by 0.22.

Briedis knocks out Venter on round two

In a discipline less often associated with cold Latvia, Mairis Briedis on Sunday confidently beat South Africa's Danie Venter at the Arena Rīga, obtaining the International Boxing Federation's Cruiserweight Champion's belt. 

He knocked out his opponent in the first round once, and won by way of knockout early in the second. 

Briedis' record is 19 wins in 19 bouts, including 15 KOs.
