Latvia's 3x3 basketball team defeats Japan, loses to Serbia

A win and a loss in their latest results are enough to keep Latvia's men's 3x3 basketball team in Olympic contention.

A great 21:18 win against the hosts was followed by a tight game against Serbia, who managed a last-minute surge to victory with a 22:16 scoreline.

Nevertheless, Latvia remains in the competition with three wins and two losses and will next face the Netherlands.

In other Olympic news, Latvia's weightlifters, javelin throwers and kayakers departed Rīga Sunday for Tokyo. Upon arrival they will have several days to acclimatise before competition starts.

Meanwhile Latvian born rower Sanita Pušpure, who now represents Ireland, started her third Olympic Games very convincingly. Pušpure made the grade in both qualifying and the quarter finals of the women's single scull and advances to thr semi-final. She is the reigning world champion in the discipline. Having competed for Latvia as a junior level, she moved to Ireland in 2006 and began competing for her adopted country, gaining full Irish nationality in 2011.
