Latvia's soccer team prepares for Nations League showdowns

Take note – story published 1 year ago

Latvia's national men's soccer team is in for an intense couple of weeks with four internationals to be played over 12 days in the latest Nations League tournament.

A training camp in Malta at the end of March laid some of the groundwork, but since then most squad members have been involved in the busy schedules of the domestic Vīrsliga, or their duties playing for clubs in other countries.

The head coach of the national team Dainis Kazakevičs said earlier that he is happy with the players at his disposal, particularly when it comes to high-quality strikers, and is relishing the chance to work with players for a longer period than is usually the case.

The Latvian national team will start the annual tournament against Andorra on Friday, followed by Liechtenstein and Moldova on June 6 in Riga and on June 10 away. Latvian footballers will finish the first round of matches on June 14 in Liechtenstein, while the remaining two games will take place in September.

The task of the Latvian national team is clear – to win the group and climb up from the lowest Nations League group.

More details about the tournament are available at the UEFA Nations League website while ticketing information for the matches in Rīga is available from the Latvian Football Federation website.
