Ostapenko, Sevastova advance to 3rd round of US Open

Latvia's two top ladies' tennis players have advanced to the third round of the WTA US Open competition, reported LETA.

Jeļena Ostapenko (WTA No. 77), whose ratings have been on a slow decline since her sudden French Open win in 2017, managed to overcome US' Alison Riske (WTA No. 36) 6-4, 6-3, despite making 11 double faults and 28 unforced errors in a chaotic first set.

Ostapenko earned 130 points for getting into the third round of the tournament, repeating her last year’s performance.

While the country's top-ranked women’s tennis player Anastsija Sevastova beat Poland’s Iga Swiatek, advancing to the third round of the US Open.

In the second round of the tournament Sevastova, No. 12 seed, (WTA No. 11), defeated the young Polish talent 3-6, 6-1, 6-3.

Sevastova earned 130 WTA points for her win over Swiatek (WTA No. 49).
