Snow volleyball to make championship debut in Sigulda

Take note – story published 6 years ago

You've heard of volleyball and beach volleyball, but now another variation on the theme - snow volleyball - is joining the list in Latvia's winter sports capital, Sigulda.

On January 27, the first official Latvian snow volleyball championship, the ERGO Winter Open, will be held at Fischer Ski Center in Sigulda, where winners will be found in competition involving both men and women.

The snowy volleyball is played on a snow covered area and its rules are very similar to the rules of the beach volleyball, though costumes are somewhat warmer.

The game takes place until the victory in two sets, but in order to win the set, a minimum 11 points and a two-point lead needs to be secured.

Winners of the Championship will receive not only the winner's title, medal and cash prize, but also will be participating in the European Championship, which will take place in Austria from March 23-25. They will be able to compete with the best European snow volleyball players.

You can apply for participation in the snowball volleyball championship by January 22, by sending an e-mail to [email protected] with name, surname, year of birth, e-mail address and telephone number of the player. Participants need to be aged 18 or over.
