Speed skater breaks national record at Olympics

Latvian speed skater Roberts Zvejnieks on February 20 took second place in his run and qualified for the quarterfinals of the 500-meter men's short-track event in the 2018 Winter Olympics, reports LSM's Latvian-language service. 

Zvejnieks finished his heat in 40.563 seconds, breaking the national record.

The semis and the final run takes place February 21.

This was the Olympic debut for 20-year-old Zvejnieks, who previously ranked 15th place in the 1,000-meter short-track event last week.
