Watch: Fifth world skeleton title for Martins Dukurs

Take note – story published 7 years ago

Latvia's Martins Dukurs became world skeleton champion for the fifth time on February 26, an unprecedented achievement in the sliding sport.

Dukurs stormed to victory at the Konigssee track to secure the landmark achievement and make his lead in this year's championship unsurpassable.

Our colleagues at LTV Sports have footage of his third run of four at the track, in which he maintained his position despite not particularly fast conditions.

But to see the moment Dukurs made sporting history, here is the full fourth round of the competition at Konigssee. His final run starts at 1 hour 14 minutes.

LTV Sports also produced this graphic to mark the victory:

Only yesterday the World Bobsleigh and Skeleton Federation uploaded a nice little video profiling Martins and his brother Tomass, another top skeleton competitor who finished in 12th position at Konigssee.
