Latvian diaspora amateur theaters unite

Latvian diaspora theatres have established the World Union of Latvian Amateur Theaters (Pasaules latviešu amatieru teātru savienība) (PLATS), Latvian Culture Center in Birmingham said January 18.

On Saturday, January 16, the Latvian Diaspora Amateur Theater Forum was organized by the Latvian Culture Centre in Birmingham for the first time in the history of Latvian theaters.

The aim of the forum was to identify Latvian theaters around the world, to merge them into one organization and to discuss their topics and problems.

PLATS objectives are communication between theaters, building up artistic quality, maintaining links with Latvia, attracting Latvian youth to diaspora theaters, circulation of information and the new organization as a base and resources site.

PLATS is open to all Latvian theaters, wherever they are, ready to cooperate with interested organizations in Latvia and around the world.

The project is supported financially by the Latvian Culture Centre in Birmingham, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Latvia and the embassy of the Republic of Latvia in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
