Resident and non-resident visitors spent 385.5 thousand nights at the establishments, which is 7.2 % more than in May a year ago, suggesting figures could pick up even more when the main summer season figures are available.
Over the period of five months, 827.5 thousand arrivals at tourist accommodation establishments were registered, which is 9.1 % more than a year ago, however 10.6 % fewer than in the respective period of 2019 before the pandemic hit.
The number non-resident arrivals at tourist accommodation establishments made up 138.7 thousand in May 2024 (60.6 % of all arrivals), which is 15.5 % more than in May 2023 but 24.3 % fewer than in May 2019 before the pandemic outbreak and Russian invasion of Ukraine reduced the number of non-resident arrivals substantially.
As the non-resident visitors spent 243.7 thousand nights at the establishments, the figure has gone up by 7.3 % compared to May a year ago. The average duration of stay was 1.8 nights (1.9 in May 2023).
The greatest number of non-resident travellers came from Lithuania (20.5 thousand), followed by Germany (15.8 thousand), Estonia (14 thousand), Finland (10.1 thousand), the United Kingdom (8.6 thousand), Poland (7.7 thousand), Sweden (5.6 thousand), USA (5.1 thousand), and Norway (4.4 thousand).
Most non-resident visitors were hosted in Riga (75.5 %), Jūrmala (7.2 %), Mārupe municipality (3 %), Liepāja (2.5 %), Sigulda municipality (1.6 %), and Cēsis municipality (1.2 %).
The number of resident arrivals registered at tourist accommodation establishments in May 2024 totalled 90.1 thousand, which is 10 % more than in May 2023 and 17.1 % more than in May 2019. Resident visitors spent 141.8 thousand nights at the establishments, which is 6.9 % more than a year ago. The average duration of resident stay was 1.6 nights (same figure as a year ago).
The majority of resident travellers were hosted in Riga (28.4 %), followed by Jūrmala (9.6 %), Liepāja (6.7 %), Cēsis municipality (4.6 %), Kuldīga municipality (3.9 %), Daugavpils (3.5 %), and Sigulda municipality (3.4 %).
