Information collected at Latvia's business database, the Register of Enterprises, over the past thirty years will be available to the public free of charge as of next week, as Chief State Notary Guna Paidere told reporters January 3.

All information is already available in test mode at info.ur.gov.lv, and the site will be fully operational from next week, January 7, when amendments to the Law on the Enterprise Register of the Republic of Latvia come into force, stipulating that information at the Register of Enterprises must be publicly available free of charge.

The Register of Enterprises has invested around EUR 500,000 in development of the site.

The opening of the registers will make historical and up-to-date information from a total of 14 registers publicly available, including information on more than 650,000 legal entities such as limited liability companies, joint stock companies, associations and others, as well as legal facts such as commercial pledges, prenuptial agreements and others. Information from the Commercial Register, Commercial Pledge Register, Associations and Foundations Register will also be available to the public free of charge.

Paidere said that the information in the registers of the Register of Enterprises would be available at three levels. The first includes information that is available free of charge and without authentication. Second level information will be free of charge, but only accessible to those who register with the e-signature or access the site via Latvija.lv. Third-level information includes documents not meant to be available to the public, which the interested party will have access to for a fee after sending a request to the Register of Enterprises, which will consider whether or not to provide this information.

According to the Paidere, most of the information contained in the registers of the Register of Enterprises will be available to the public free of charge - around 70 percent of all documents at the Register of Enterprises.

"With the Register of Enterprises' new website, we want to improve our services and to only provide information electronically," said Paidere.
