Unfortunate timing for Latvian construction industry awards

Take note – story published 4 years ago

The timing could have been better. Members of Latvia's construction and civil engineering industries gathered at the VEF Palace of Culture September 3 to hold their annual awards ceremony - on the same day that several construction companies were raided by anti-corruption police.

The awards were handed out by the Latvian Association of Civil Engineers and the magazine Civil Engineer to "Promote professional growth and quality of work in the construction industry, celebrate and reward the best, and motivate them to work in their country."

Among the twelve awards handed out, several went to representatives of companies under investigation for running cartels, price-fixing and other offences, but there were also awards for architects, engineers, academics, project managers and others. Full details are available at the official website.
