Over 7,000 insurance claims made in storm aftermath in Latvia

By the evening of Monday, August 5, insurance companies had received 7,001 claims for storm and rain damage that occurred on July 28–29, representatives of the Latvian Insurers Association (LAA) told LETA.

Among them, 6041 claims have been made for insured property, 635 claims for KASKO (vehicle) insurance, and 325 claims for crop insurance, for EUR 2.8 million.

The claims amount to approximately EUR 12.75 million.

The Association notes that the number of claims continues to grow, so these are not yet final figures.

At the same time, the LAA noted that it had no information on the number of refusals.

The Association explained that insurers continue to carefully assess each case and review policies in the light of the unprecedented damage caused by the extreme rainfall. Consequently, the LAA expects the proportion of refusals to be low.
