Latvia's commercial dairy production up in first half of 2024

Central Statistical Bureau provisional data published on August 8 show that in H1 2024, compared to H1 2023, output of dairy products for sale increased by 3.6 thousand tonnes or 4.6 %.

Compared to the first six months of the previous year milk processing companies produced increased output of cream (13.6 %) and drinking milk (4.6 %). However, compared to H1 2022 increased output was registered in production of butter (7.5 %) and drinking milk (30.8 %).

In H1 2024, compared to H1 2023, the output of acidified milk (yogurt, kefir, curdled milk, etc.), as well as cheese (incl. cheese used for processed cheese, aged and fresh cheese (acid-set cheese, cottage cheese, curd cheese snacks, and curd paste)), rose by 2.8 % while the output of butter reduced by 4.4 %. However, compared to H1 2022 output of cheese went up by 16.4 %, of butter by 20.3 %, and of acidified milk by 30.0 %.

In H1 2024 milk procurement and processing companies collected 416.7 thousand tonnes of raw milk, which is 12.9 thousand tonnes or 3.2 % more than in H1 2023.

The average purchase price of raw milk was 392.31 EUR/t, which is 35.41 EUR/t or 9.9 % more than in H1 2023. However, compared to H1 2022 the price has somewhat reduced – by 56.82 EUR/t or 12.6 %.
