Latvia and Estonia to form joint LNG terminal working group

The responsible ministers of Latvia and Estonia signed a memorandum of cooperation in Tallinn on Friday, May 12, for the joint use of the Paldiski liquefied natural gas terminal in crisis cases, the Latvian Ministry of Climate and Energy announced.

In order to implement the memorandum, a joint working group of the two countries will be formed, whose task will be to develop and agree on precise cooperation rules.

The memorandum envisages the creation of a cooperation framework between Latvia and Estonia for the joint chartering of floating storage and regasification equipment, as well as for the management of Paldiski port facilities and shore gas infrastructure in case of a natural gas supply crisis.

Climate and Energy Minister Raimonds Čudars ("New Unity") stated that the signing of the memorandum is another step to strengthen the security situation in the Baltic region.
