Valainis pointed out that even though the competition for the position of a new LIAA director is still ongoing, his Ministry has decided not to wait for a new head of the institution is in place and will start work on changes right now.
"In the next month, we will announce what the main reorganization matters will be, so that when a new manager arrives, he will already come to a completely new LIAA. Fairly extensive changes are expected, including a review of functions," Valainis said, noting that certain functions that are not related to investment attraction, will be spun off from LIAA.
The incentive system of employee remuneration will be improved so that employees are interested in the work of attracting investments, the minister said.
"Currently, there is a very large structure with many employees, but this focus on investment attraction and export promotion is a bit blurred, therefore we will make quite significant changes so that investors and exporters are served by this agency more efficiently and proactively," said Valaniis.
It was previously reported that applications for the post of LIAA director were received from 18 applicants in a second attempt at filling the vacancy. Valainis himself nixed the two final candidates in the previous competition to fill the vacancy, which had attracted 52 applications.
Previous LIAA diretor Kaspars Rožkalns resigned in September 2023 citing a "lack of clear priorities at the state level in arranging the business environment".
