'Moscow House' in Rīga to be auctioned off

The so-called Moscow House at Marijas Street 7, Rīga, will be auctioned by SJSC "Valsts nekustamie īpašumi" (State Real Estate) with a starting price of EUR 3.57 million, according to information in the official publication "Latvijas Vēstnesis" on August 19.

The property consists of a land plot with an area of 966 square meters and a building on it.

The auction will start on Tuesday, August 20, and end on September 19.

Persons wishing to participate in the auction must pay a security amount of 10% of the starting price of the immovable property to be auctioned into the current account of VNĪ by September 9, 2024, and send a request for authorization for the auction via the Electronic Auction Site.

The object will have to be paid for within two weeks.

On January 11 this year, the Saeima adopted in its final reading the law "On Disposal of Real Estate Necessary to Prevent a Threat to State Security", which provides for the takeover of the so-called 'Moscow House' into state ownership.

The aim of the law is to guarantee that the political activities threatening Latvia's national security that take place under the guise of cultural events and interest education in Moscow House are stopped, and that Moscow House is eliminated as a "brand" of Russian compatriot politics and that the threat to Latvia's statehood and national security is eliminated.

On March 26 this year, the government decided to transfer the Moscow House, which is owned by the Ministry of Transport, to the Ministry of Finance, which would then sell it at auction.

The proceeds will be donated to Ukraine.
