Natural gas consumption grew this year in Latvia

The amount of natural gas consumed in Latvia in the first nine months of this year increased by 17.2% compared to the same period last year, according to data published by the Central Statistical Bureau, LETA reports October 28.

In the first nine months of 2024, Latvia consumed 6.402 terawatt-hours (TWh) of natural gas, compared to 5.46 TWh in the same period last year.

In September this year, 515,314 megawatt-hours (MWh) of natural gas were consumed in Latvia, which is 0.9% more than in the same month last year.

In January this year, Latvia consumed 1.932 TWh of natural gas, 72.6% more than in the same month last year, in February - 1.331 TWh of natural gas, 11% more, in March - 907 585 MWh, down 11.9%, in April - 513 424 MWh, an increase of 23.6%, in May - 221 306 MWh, a decrease of 3.3%, in June - 174 242 MWh, a decrease of 48.8%, in July - 366 077 MWh, an increase of 74.6% and in August - 440 841 MWh, an increase of 8.3% compared to the same month of last year.

It has already been reported that the amount of natural gas consumed in Latvia last year decreased by 5.4% and totaled 8.406 TWh.

Last year, the most consumed natural gas was in December - 1.25 TWh, which is a 21.8% decrease compared to the same month in 2022.
