During the time between May 22 and June 1 there were altogether 29 new cases confirmed of African swine fever (ASF) in wild boar, the state Food and Veterinary Service (PVD) told national information agency LETA Wednesday.
The biggest cluster of specimens – a herd of nineteen were confirmed in Burtnieki district’s Rencēni county, which seems to have become ASF’s ground zero in Latvia, with 95 cases confirmed in the locale since January 1.
The count now comes to 217 animals found in 32 counties of 14 districts just this year. However, since the outbreak was confirmed first in 2014 a total of 434 wild boar have been infected.
