According to data released by the Central Statistical Bureau (CSB) on June 5, in April 2020 the number of foreign and resident visitors to Latvia comprised just 13,200 people, which is 93.6 % below the equivalent figure for April 2019.

The figures were not unexpected given the major impact of the coronavirus and concomitant restrictions on travel, but they still make for painful reading.

The number of nights spent by visitors has reduced by 86.6 % and the number of foreign visitors comprised just 2,400 people, which is 98.4 % less than in April last year.

Meanwhile in April 2020, 10,800 Latvian visitors were hosted at tourist accommodation establishments, which is 82 % less than in April 2019. The number of nights spent by residents reduced by 71 %.

On same-day trips around Latvia residents went 3.2 times more often than on overnight trips.
