The State Border Guard told LETA Thursday that they were holding several members of this group, which was allegedly involved in smuggling contraband tobacco products into the country, including a State Border Guard Daugavpils Administration chief inspector who worked at the Paternieki checkpoint across from the border with Belarus.
The detained border guard gave a bribe to another border guard official to get word on planned helicopter flights and other service operations.
The members of the criminal group are being held as suspects in the case.
