Former KGB building for sale in Riga

State JSC “State Real Estate” (VNĪ) offers a six-story brick building in Riga, Brīvības Street 61 or Tetera House, also known as the corner house, requiring that the exposition of the Latvian Occupation Museum is preserved in the building, VNĪ said August 6.

The house was built in 1912 after architect Aleksandrs Vanags projected it as a rental house with shops. The interior layout of the building is suitable for rental apartments. Formerly, it housed headquarters of the USSR State Security Committee (KGB)

In 2015, the house underwent a facade renovation. However, for the building to recover its former glory, it needs significant investments. In order to preserve the historical heritage of the building, the purchaser will have to follow the instructions of the State Inspection for the Protection of Heritage Monuments during the development of the building, said VNĪ.

A small part - less than 700 square metres - must be preserved for the exhibition regarding the history of the KGB in Latvia on the basement floor, and the first floor of the building shall be used by the Latvian Museum of Occupation, remaining open to the public as a museum after the purchase of real estate. The rest of the space is 8000 m2 in total.

The auction will take place on the Electronic Auctions site from August 13 to September 14 .

Those interested in the purchase can attend the Open Door day on August 19.

According to the assessment carried out by VCG Expert Group in the end of 2019, the value of the building with the long-term lease of the museum is EUR 4 247 000, which is the starting price of the auction. Auction step: €5000.
