On March 21 the foundation of a major Rimi logistics center worth €75m and expected to add 600 jobs by 2022 was laid in Rīga.

The logistics center, together with an office building, will be expanded to 90,000 square meters, making it the largest construction built during Latvia's independence.

Rimi management alongside Riga mayor Nils Ušakovs and Swedish Ambassador Henrik Landerholm partook in laying the foundation stone using a curious-looking multi-shaft spade. They also deposited a time capsule at the site.

As reported, Rimi Latvia retail chain generated €785.281 million in 2015 sales, 6% up from a year before, while the company's profit rose 16% to €27.427 million.

Rimi Latvia belongs to Rimi Baltic, owned by Swedish retail group ICA.

The retail chain of Rimi Latvia currently comprises 119 stores of three formats: 31 Rimi hypermarkets, 44 Rimi supermarkets and 44 Supernetto discount stores. Rimi Latvia operates the Rimi and Supernetto stores in 28 cities and town across Latvia.
