German investors pleased with Baltic gamble

German investors in the Baltic states are overwhelmingly pleased with their decision to come to the region, with nine out of ten of them saying they would do the same again, according to the latest annual report from the German-Baltic Chamber of Commerce in Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania (AHK).

Despite the Ukraine conflict, German companies continue to believe in the good prospects of the three Baltic markets, the AHK said in a release with 96% of the German companies participating in a survey saying they would happily invest again in Estonia and 93% saying they would re-invest in Lithuania.

Unfortunately the lowest satisfaction level was recorded in Latvia though at 82% it is still strong.

“This valuation has remained constant over the past decade” said AHK President Thomas Schöllkopf:

"The constraints due to the current sanction policy towards Russia cannot disrupt the enduring appeal of the Baltic business locations. All three values have even increased slightly compared to 2014."

Schöllkopf said fears that the Ukraine crisis might have a knock-on effect in the Baltics were certainly on the minds of German companies.

“The results of our survey illustrate that the economic situation as well as expectations and plans for the future are still very good,” he said.

For 2014 the economic development possibilities of all three states were rated above the EU-average for the fifth year in a row.
