Hotels continue steady recovery from Covid downturn

According to the data of the Central Statistical Bureau, in July 2022 the number of foreign and resident visitors comprised 344.2 thousand, which is 34 % more than in July 2021.

Compared to July last year, the number of nights spent by visitors comprised 616.8 thousand, which is 36.5 % more.

During the first seven months of this year, the number of foreign and resident visitors comprised 1.2 million, which is 85.4 % more than in the seven months of 2021, however, compared to the time before the pandemic – first seven months of 2019, a drop of 28.4 % was observed in the number of visitors.

In July 2022, out of all visitors 52.8 % or 181.7 thousand were foreign visitors, which is 2.2 times more than last year. The number of nights spent by foreign visitors, compared to July last year, has grown 2 times and comprised 333.1 thousand. The average length of stay of foreign visitors comprised 1.8 nights.

The majority of foreign visitors came from Lithuania (41.4 thousand), Estonia (27.9 thousand), Finland (19.3 thousand), Germany (17.7 thousand), United Kingdom (7.6 thousand), Russia (6.1 thousand) and Poland (6 thousand).

Most foreign visitors were hosted in Riga – 57.6 %, Jūrmala – 15.9 %, Liepāja – 4.6 %, Ventspils and Sigulda municipality – 3.1 %.

In July 2022, 162.5 thousand Latvian residents were hosted at tourist accommodation establishments, which is 6 % less than in July 2021. The number of nights spent by them comprised 283.7 thousand, and it fell by 1.5 %, compared to July last year.

Latvian visitors stayed mostly in Riga (14.1 %), Jūrmala (6.5 %), Talsi municipality (6.3 %), Cēsis municipality (6.2 %), Liepāja (5.3 %), Kuldīga municipality (4.8 %) Ventspils and Limbaži municipality (4.7 %).
