Hotels ready to provide self-isolation space

Hotels have expressed readiness to provide accommodation for those who have been infected with COVID-19 or are considered contact persons, Latvian Television reported December 2.

Hotels are one of the most affected sectors due to COVID-19 restrictions. For some, turnover has fallen by up to 90%.

There is currently a public order for hotels to accommodate some of the people infected with COVID-19.

“We want to prepare a kind of ready-made tool, ready-made program so that it can be picked up if necessary. Some of these people who are in contact or ill with no need for hospitalization, it is difficult to distance themselves at home. Family members are being endangered,” explained Economics Minister Jānis Vitenbergs (“KPV LV”).

A large proportion of hotels have already been surveyed and interest has been high. Hotels say it would be even mutually beneficial. The accommodation of the infected people could cover at least part of the current costs, said representatives of hotels.

“If it's any volume, even 20-30 rooms a day, it's something for hotels right now. This would help to cover at least the maintenance costs, because the hotels are currently working with losses,” said hotel chain Mogotel chair Jeļena Stirna.
