Responding to strong demand on the market, Latvia has continued to successfully export electricity, Latvenergo representatives said, adding that at 10 a.m. this morning Latvia exported 832 MW of electric power. Power generation is especially intensive at the Daugava Hydroelectric Power Plant and combined heat-and-power plants Riga. Lithuania, meanwhile is the biggest electricity importer as this neighbor country of Latvia imports about as much electricity as Latvia consumes.
At 10 a.m. this morning, Latvia consumed roughly 1,188 MW of electricity, with the combined heat-and-power plants generating 968 MW of that amount and hydroelectric power plants providing 890 MW. Estonia, which consumed 1,373 MW, exported 153 MW. Lithuania, which consumed 1,894 MW of power, imported 1,187 MW.
"Thanks to integration in the Nordic electricity market and an increasing equalization of prices, the average electricity price in Latvia is coming close to Finland's price level," the Latvenergo representatives said.
