Latvia's alcohol production down by nearly half in 2022

In 11 months of 2022, the amount of alcohol produced in Latvia decreased by 47.3% compared to 11 months of 2021, according to the figures compiled by the State Revenue Service (VID), LETA reported January 22.

In total, alcohol produced in Latvia last 11 months amounted to 3.764 million liters of absolute alcohol, which is 3.384 million liters less than in the 11 months of 2021.

The volume of ethyl alcohol produced during the 11 months was 3.764 million liters of absolute alcohol, which is 47.3% less than in the 11 months of 2021. Dehydrated alcohol has not been produced in Latvia in 11 months last year.

The volume of ethyl alcohol imported into Latvia was 18.147 million liters of absolute alcohol during the 11 months of last year, which is 71.8% more than in the 11 months of 2021.

In the last 11 months, the volume of ethanol marketed in Latvia decreased by 27.7%, or by 0.835 million liters of absolute alcohol - 2,173 million liters of absolute alcohol in the 11 months of 2022, and 3.006 million liters of absolute alcohol in the 11 months of 2021.

The amount of ethyl alcohol used in alcoholic beverages during the 11 months of last year was 15,658 million liters of absolute alcohol, which is 23.6% more than the amount spent in the 11 months of 2021 - 12,665 million liters of absolute alcohol.

On the other hand, ethyl alcohol was exported and exported during the 11 months to other Member States of the European Union at a rate of 4,358 million liters of absolute alcohol, or by 7.4% over the 11 months of 2021.

In 2021 alcohol was produced in Latvia at 7.511 million liters of absolute alcohol, which is 79,590 liters more than in 2020.
