Latvia's households using wood heating could also receive state aid

Take note – story published 1 year ago

In the forthcoming heating season, State aid should also be provided for households using wood, the Minister for Environmental Protection and Regional Development, Artūrs Toms Plešs, told Latvian Television on August 2.

According to him, under the government's conceptual agreement, those who have central heating or a system of gas, electricity, or wood pellets, will have half of the increase in heating covered. Plešs said it cannot be allowed that those with pellets have aid, but those using wood do not.

Therefore, in the next meeting of the government, when it is decided to decide on support in overcoming the rapid increase in energy prices, it will also be encouraged to support those households that use wood in heating, the minister said.

There are currently no precise estimates of what and how much state aid will be needed, but the number of such households could be around 10,000, the minister said. The exact calculations will be prepared for the government meeting next week. “I don't think a couple of millions of euros could have an impact on [the state budget],” the minister added.
