FICIL discussion on job market during economic recovery

On September 16, 12:30 to 14:00, the Foreign Investors Council in Latvia (FICIL) hosts a panel discussion in English on the current trends in job market.

The discussion “Talent as the engine of recovery. How to drive requalification of the labor force during the economic recovery process?”, moderated by Edijs Bošs, will see participation of:

  • Kaspars Rožkalns (LIAA),
  • Jānis Paiders, (Ministry of Education and Science, Deputy Director of the Higher Education, Science and Innovation Department),
  • Gatis Eglītis (Minister of Welfare),
  • Arvils Ašeradens (Chairman of the Saeima Education, Culture and Science Committee),
  • Evita Simsone (Head of State Employment Agency),
  • Oļegs Krasnopjorovs (The Bank of Latvia Chief Economist of the Macroeconomic Analysis Division).

Representatives of the FICIL: Zlata Elksniņa-Zaščirinska (PwC), Ints Krasts (SEB Banka), Iain Kennedy (BALTA), Alvis Ērglis (Circle K), Evija Šturca (KPMG), Valts Kārkliņš (Bite), Arnis Sauka (SSE Riga), Reinhold Schneider (Schwenk), Claudio Rivera (NCCL), Irina Kostina (Ellex/AmCham), Baiba Apine (PwC), Linda Šedlere (Schwenk).

The discussion, according to FICIL, will focus on the following questions:

  • What steps can be taken to centralize the decision-making and accountability over human capital management policy in Latvia?
  • How to ensure a long-term, data-based approach to policy planning in this area?
  • How to increase the demand for high-quality requalification opportunities and incentivize the population to take timely action and obtain skills that will be needed in the future, how to create a flexible workforce that can quickly adapt to changing needs? 
  • How to ensure that decisions regarding human capital are aligned with the priority sectors, as defined by national planning documents, including priority investment sectors?
  • What specific investments should be made within the RRF framework to have a positive long-term effect on the human capital policy?

On Friday, September 17, the FICIL and the Latvian government is hosting the 25th annual High Council meeting, discussing the priorities of cooperation.
