MikroTik estimating losses following fire

Take note – story published 5 years ago

One of Mikrotīkls (known abroad as MikroTik) warehouses was destroyed by a fire on August 20 in the Rumbula neighborhood of Rīga. The building was insured against fire, and the company is busy estimating losses and trying to return to normal, it told LTV.

Mikrotīkls is an IT company that makes routers and other equipment. It is a big contributor to the Latvian economy and posted a profit of €43 million last year.

The 5,480 square meters of the warehouse were completely consumed by the fire, the causes of which are currently unknown.

The warehouse contained both finished products and materials. It is one of the four buildings the company owns.

"We're trying to resume operations just as they were before so that there are no delays whatsoever. Therefore we're optimistic, and despite this tragic event we'll return to normal in no time," said Liene Liepiņa, a legal expert at the company, adding that Mikrotīkls have insured the location.

"We'll be talking with the insurer shortly and hope that they'll support us and we'll sort out the documents together," she said.

In addition to being a major employer and tax payer, Mikrotīkls also enjoys public esteem for its large donations to science and medicine.
