Numbers dip on public transport in July

Rigas Satiksme (Riga Transport), the municipal public transport company of the Latvian capital, carried just over 11 million passengers in July 2015, down 3 percent from July 2014 and also 4.2 percent down on June 2015, the BNS news service reported Tuesday.

The greatest share of passengers, or 5.4 million people, was carried by buses. 3.3 million people were carried by trolleybuses and 2.57 million by trams in July 2015.

In 2014 as  whole, Rigas Satiksme carried more than 150 million passengers, up 0.3 percent from 2013 - equivalent to 75 times the population of the entire country. 

Fully owned by the Riga City Council, Rigas Satiksme provides bus, tram and trolleybus services to passengers in Riga.
