Rīga's heating prices to rise even further

Take note – story published 1 year and 11 months ago

As of the end of November, the heating energy tariff of Riga heating supplier Rīgas siltums is planned to increase by another 8% – from EUR 170,59 per megawatt-hour (MWh) to EUR 183,86 per MWh, according to the company's draft tariffs submitted for assessment by the Public Services Regulation Commission (SPRK).

The company plans to raise the tariff from November 28, while as of August 15, 2023, a non-significant tariff reduction of over ten cents is planned.

The increase in the current thermal energy tariff is linked to the increase in the prices of woodchips and purchased thermal energy.

The Rīga heating company Rīgas siltums already doubled heat rates this autumn, lifting prices from €85.45 per MWh to €170.59 per MWh.

SPRK draws attention to the fact that state aid is automatically applied to bills for household users from October. For heating tariffs of up to €150 per MWh, the State compensates for 50% of the tariff above the threshold of €68 per MWh. On the other hand, the State compensates for 90% of the increase above EUR 150 per MWh.
