State aid for new professionals affected by COVID-19 in Latvia

Take note – story published 3 years ago

For those new professionals who lost their jobs due to COVID-19, the government has decided to grant a special allowance of almost €6.6 million, Latvian Television reported on June 30.

The aid will be paid to people who graduated from higher education or college last year, but have become unemployed during the emergency or within three months after it.

For the first two months, the benefit will be EUR 500, and EUR 375 for the next two.

The government has decided on the introduction of the aid because insufficient experience prevents graduates from receiving unemployment benefits. The Welfare Ministry predicts about 3700 people could apply for the benefit.
