Tax debt in Latvia up nearly 5% since beginning of year

In Latvia, at the beginning of September, total tax debts, including current, suspended debts, and maturity extensions, amounted to EUR 1.093 billion, which is 0.1% more than a month earlier and 4.7% more than at the beginning of the year, according to data from the State Revenue Service (VID), LETA reported on September 26.

Debts to the general government budget at the beginning of September 2022 amounted to EUR 574,187 million, an increase of 0.4% compared to the beginning of August, debts to municipal budgets amounted to EUR 310,233 million, which is also 0.4% more than a month earlier, while social security contributions were owed at EUR 208,666 million, a decline of 1.2%.

On September 1, 2022, the current debt for which the arrears are calculated represented 56.5% of the total debt amount, or EUR 617,585 million.

One month earlier, at the beginning of August 2022, Latvia had total tax debts of EUR 1.092 billion and EUR 1.044 billion on January 1 2022.
