"We must try as much as possible to use the labor force that is in Latvia... We must think about who will work here in the future," suggested Augulis.
He expressed the unsurprising desire that the people of Latvia should be able to support the country and themselves. He also emphasized that it is important to promote the birth rate in the country, because, despite current support, the birth rates are falling.
However, when commenting on his previous public pronouncement that childcare leave could be reduced in the future, Augulis said that he had been misunderstood and that reports suggesting he might cut childcare leave were "misinormation"
"We are planning a budget for the next four years, nothing like that is planned, but there is obviously a part of the public that is interested in somehow promoting it as a fact," he said.
