Unemployment down slightly in March in Latvia

 At end-March, the registered unemployment rate in Latvia was 6.1 percent of the economically active population, down 0.2 percentage points from a month ago, according to information from the State Employment Agency.

At the end of March, there were 53,837 unemployed persons registered with the Employment Agency, which is 1,870 people fewer than in February when there were 55,707 unemployed in Latvia.

The lowest unemployment level at the end of March was registered in Rīga Region – 4.5 percent of the economically active population, dropping 0.1 percentage point from February, while the highest unemployment level was registered in Latgale – 12.7 percent, down 0.3 percentage points from a month ago.

In March, the registered unemployment rate dropped 0.4 percentage points in Vidzeme and reached 6.3 percent, dropped 0.3 percentage points in Zemgale and Kurzeme, remaining at 6 percent and 6.6 percent, respectively.

Registered unemployment dropped 0.1 percentage points in Rīga and was 4.4 percent at the end of March.
