Registered unemployment rate in Latvia 8.6% at the end of June

The unemployment rate registered in Latvia at the end of June reached 8.6% of the economically active population, which is 0.2 percentage points more than a month earlier, according to July 9 information from the State Employment Agency (NVA).

At the end of June 2020, a total of 78 266 unemployed were registered in the NVA, which is about 1826 people more than a month earlier, when 76 440 unemployed were registered in the agency.

The most rapid registered unemployment rate increase was in the Kurzeme region and Latgale region.

The lowest level of registered unemployment at the end of June was in Riga and also in the region of Riga – 6.9%, respectively 0.2 percentage points and 0.1 percentage points more than a month earlier, while the highest level of registered unemployment was in Latgale – 16%, which is an increase of 0.3 percentage points.

The unemployment rate registered in Vidzeme and Zemgale increased by 0.2 percentage points in June, representing 8.2% of the economically active population at the end of the month, while the unemployment rate registered in Kurzeme increased by 0.3 percentage points, reaching 9.2%.

At the end of 2019, the unemployment rate registered in Latvia was 6.2% of the economically active population and 8.4% at the end of May this year.
