Rīga Airport to build new terminal

Riga International Airport has announced the first round of construction procurements – pre-qualification of tenderers – for the construction of a new passenger terminal, the costs of which are estimated at EUR 167 million, the airport said on November 3.

The procurement is to select a builder for a new passenger terminal, luggage handling and sorting complex, access roads, a multi-storey car park, and airport connection to Rail Baltica station.

Local and foreign construction merchants or associations thereof are invited to participate in the competition.

Applicants must have a minimum annual net turnover of at least €60 million over the three previous years and be able to show robust financial and economic performance figures, the airport said. The details of the requirements can be found on the airport's website.

The deadline for submitting applications for the qualifying round is December 13, 14:00 Rīga time.

The construction area of the new terminal is 45 thousand square meters, while construction costs are estimated at EUR 167 million. Construction work on the new terminal is scheduled to begin in Q3 2024 and be completed by the end of 2028.

Construction is expected to take place in several stages so that Rīga airport can work at full capacity during construction.

The project will be financed through the mobilization of funds from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, other international financial institutions, and credit institutions.

On November 24, the airport will hold an open day for interested bidders.
