Three new bicycle lanes installed in Rīga

The installation of cycling infrastructure on three routes in Āgenskalns and Ķīpsala, Mežciems, as well as in Čiekurkalns and Mežaparks, for a total length of eight kilometers, has been completed, according to Riga City Council information.

The works started in spring and finished in June, adding eight kilometers to Riga's total cycling infrastructure network.

In the Āgenskalns and Ķīpsala neighborhoods, cycling infrastructure has been installed in the section of Balasta Dam from Krišjāņa Valdemāra Street to Daugavgrīvas Street. It connects the cycle route between Vanšu tilts and Uzvaras Park, where there used to be an interruption. The new cycle route provides easy access to the Press House quarter (yet to be built), Swedbank headquarters, and Ķīpsala beach. The cycle lanes add 1.3 kilometers to the Pārdaugava cycling infrastructure network.

In the Mežciems neighborhood, cycling infrastructure has been installed along the entire length of Gaiļezera Street. Two one-way cycle lanes have been installed on Gaiļezera Street, maintaining the existing number of lanes, and adding 1.1 kilometers to the existing cycle infrastructure network.

The Čiekurkalna and Mežaparks neighborhoods will be connected by introducing cycle infrastructure in Viskaļu and Ezermalas streets. Two one-way cycle lanes have been installed on these streets, adding 5.6 kilometers to the existing cycle infrastructure network.
