Rīga to put more electric buses on streets

This year 35 new electric public buses will go out on the streets of Rīga, said Džineta Innusa, Chair of the municipal company Rīgas Satiksme, in an interview with Latvian Radio on May 11.

According to government regulations adopted this week, Rīga will have €24.27 million available through the Recovery Fund. Innusa said:

"We worked on this project in 2021 and 2022. For this money, Rīgas Satiksme will purchase 17 electric vehicles. [..] The existing procurement already provided for 17. This amount also provides as if for four trams, but the reality is that it is not possible to buy four trams. We already explored the possibility of purchasing four trams last year and concluded that there were no producers ready to supply such a small volume. Other solutions will have to be considered."

This year, 35 new electric vehicles produced by Solaris will hit the streets.  The routes where the new buses will be serviced will still be analyzed.

"At the moment, we are building the infrastructure at the 7th bus park on Vestienas Street. The electricity network will need to be developed,” said Innusa.
