According to the prosecutor's information, at the end of April, the State Police stopped a Porsche Cayenne S vehicle due to a breach of traffic rules. The police officers were suspicious of the driver's condition so he was taken to the Rīga Psychiatry and Narcology Center to be tested for narcotic or other intoxicating substances. The driver refused to be tested.
In November last year, the Criminal Law of Latvia was amended stipulating that a driver of a motorized vehicle who refuses a medical check for alcohol, narcotic, psychotropic, toxic, or other substances in their system, is subject to criminal liability.
The accused pleaded guilty, and the prosecutor sentenced him to 120 hours of community service, confiscation of the driver's license for five years, as well as confiscation of the Porsche Cayenne S worth EUR 85,000 to the benefit of the state. It has yet to be confirmed whether it will be of any use to Ukraine – but as it is a 4x4 vehicle, perhaps it will.
