Police and carsharing services go on night raid in Rīga

On the night of Saturday, November 9, the State Police, together with car-sharing companies Bolt Drive and CityBee, carried out traffic surveillance in the streets of Rīga. More than 30 offenses were recorded, including 12 cases of drunk-driving, police said.

Traffic was monitored on various streets of Riga, including periodic traffic stops on Vanšu and Akmens bridges.

During the checks, both drivers in private cars and those using shared vehicles were stopped and checked - a total of 31 offenses were recorded.

The representatives of the shared vehicles checked whether the driver's details matched the profile of the person who rented the car. Of these, six cases resulted in criminal proceedings because several drivers had been driving under the influence without a licence, and six cases resulted in administrative proceedings because alcohol was detected in small amounts.

Also, a taxi passenger had to stop his journey because the taxi driver was found to be under the influence of alcohol.

In addition to drunk driving, law enforcement officers recorded 8 speeding offenses, in two of which the drivers were not only fined but also banned from driving because they exceeded the speed limit by 50 km/h. Other offenses included driving without a license, disobeying traffic lights, disregarding road signs, and disobeying the lawful requests of police officers.

A total of 2,372 drivers were checked, including car-sharing drivers.

Bolt Drive drivers were found guilty of three offenses: drunk-driving, driving without a license and disobeying the requests of police officers. Drivers of CityBee car-sharing vehicles were found guilty of one offense - driving without a license.
