All travelers stranded by tour operator delivered to Latvia

All 147 travelers who were stranded in Spain and Portugal due to problems with the tour operator have successfully returned to Latvia, said the Consumer Rights Protection Centre (PTAC), which in cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs organized the repatriation of the travelers.

On Monday, August 12, 81 travelers returned to Latvia, while another camp group of 66 returned home on Tuesday. This second group traveled back from Portugal to Latvia on the organizers' bus, but the bus developed technical problems in France, so repatriation was initiated.

The repatriation of the three groups of travelers was initiated due to the default of Fisom Ltd and the liquidity problems of the trader.

"This is a costly lesson that reminds tour operators to plan their operations and contingencies more carefully and responsibly, as well as consumers, especially when purchasing trips where children are traveling independently. Particular attention should be paid to the details of the trips planned - insured risks, group management, and children's ability to undertake such trips," said PTAC Director Zaiga Liepiņa in a press release.

Currently, the repatriation costs are still being compiled. Repatriation costs will be covered by the annual state fee paid by licensed travel service providers.
