More than 198,000 square meters will be improved in three stages on Kārļa Ulmaņa Avenue. The resurfacing has started on two sections of Kārļa Ulmaņa Avenue - from Jaunmoku Street to Gramzdas Street and its parallel lane, and from Gramzdas Street to the city border. After the underground communication networks are in place, work will start on the third section - from Liepājas Street to Jaunmoku Street.
A total of 128 streets will be resurfaced, 38 with asphalt and 90 with gravel.
The total area to be repaired on asphalt streets will reach 630,000 square meters, with a budget of around €27 million, while almost 96,000 square meters of gravel streets will be restored, with a budget of around €3 million.
"Street repairs in Riga are continuing, with year-on-year increases in both the number of streets repaired and the financial investment in street repairs. This year, the City of Riga has allocated the largest ever investment in street resurfacing and in terms of area, we are talking about more than 600 thousand square meters of asphalt pavement that will be repaired this year," said Vilnis Ķirsis (New Unity), Chairman of the Riga City Council.
Significant resurfacing is also expected in other important streets connecting the neighborhoods - Daugavgrīva highway, sections of Biķernieku Street, Brīvības Avenue, Jaunciema Avenue and Gustava Zemgala Avenue. All the street sections to be resurfaced can be found on the list and digital map published on the municipality's website.
